Hell Freezes Over; Harvey Weinstein Teams With Disney On ‘Artemis Fowl’
Feed is the story of a group of young idealistic internet journalists on the campaign trail with charismatic Presidential hopeful Peter Ryman. What at first seems to be the story of their lives turns out to be quite literally the story oftheir lives. Oh and did I mention zombies? Yeah zombies too
I’m just being coy here, it really is an accurate representation of the book. It’s first and foremost about the rise of internet culture with zombies merely as the backdrop. The undead act as a catalyst for the rapidly changing social constructs. That’s not to diminish the threat of the horde of course and they do play a vital role in the plot but the main focus is on the importance of citizen journalism and the ideals of net neutrality and libertarian-ism. To say this is a left leaning book would be an understatement. Not to the point where it ever feels preachy or laid on too thick but the subtext is pretty clear. Corporate funded mainstream media outlets bad, Independent alternative internet blogsgood.
For the most part I really enjoyed this back and towards the climatic finale I really couldn’t put it down but there were one or two things I did have an issue with. One of which was the dialogue: Being set in a post zombie outbreak world meant there were was a lot of world building to be done and a lot of this exposition takes the form of dialogue and it just came across as quite clunky and awkward in parts. I understand the impetus but it just wasn’t handled as gracefully as it could have been and it did take me out of the experience a few times.
On the other hand though there was a great amount going on this book which I loved. I find it’s quite hard to shock me with dramatic plot twists as most of the time they’re heavily telegraphed and cliche. Not so with Feed. I really was taken aback and found myself actually pretty emotional when a certain thing happened to a certain important character.
Really looking forward to continuing the series and I will be following the future work of Mira Grant with much anticipation.
So I just finished watching the footage from the X-Men DOFP Panel and I found myself at first really, really excited and impressed but also kind of annoyed at the same time. Let me explain:
I love the fact that they’re taking a seriously bold move, it’s something that this industry really needs more of. Arguably Marvel kicked off the trend with The Avengers which was really the boldest move in recent cinematic history and this is 100% a reaction to the success of that movie.
X-Men First Class is hands down my favourite of the X-Movies. It really invigorated the franchise for me and pretty much succeeded in accomplishing everything it set out to achieve, and it has Michael Fassbender in it and everyone knows Michael Fassbender makes everything 10x more awesome.
After that film I was sure we would never see the original cast on screen again, bar Hugh Jackman as Wolverine of course, so when they announced they were bringing together the 2 casts and resolving the 2 timelines I was stunned. It just doesn’t seem like something that would actually happen, it just sounds like an idea that people would talk about 10 years from now like ‘Hey wouldn’t it have been sooo cool if they did this?’ But here we are.
They have the perfect set up with the time travel story line, Bryan Singer is back on board as director. It’s the perfect storm. So why am I annoyed?
Quicksilver is going to be in Days of Future Past in 2014 played by Evan Peters.
Quicksilver is going to be in Avengers Age of Ultron in 2015 played by someone who is NOT Evan Peters.
I mean come on. You have soooo many characters already can’t you just letJoss Whedon have him? Would it really be so detrimental to your movie? I get it, I’m not really that naive to think this is remotely how things work but it just bugs the shit out of me.
It’s also due to the fact that I really do think that Fox and Sony should just drop this shit already and give all the characters back to Marvel. Like Now. RIGHT NOW. No joke. I think with Disney behind them now they have a real shot to get every single character back as soon as physically possible.
So I’m sure X-Men Days of Future Past will be a pretty amazing movie but it’s very existence is just a constant reminder that things just aren’t right in the world until every movie featuring a MARVEL character is produced by MARVEL STUDIOS.
Zack Snyder takes the stage at the Warner Bros Panel at this years San Diego Comic Con to announce that the sequel to Man of Steel will be arguably the biggest comic book event movie since Marvel’s The Avengers. An honest to god Superman/Batman movie. Nerds across the world begin simultaneously pinching themselves.
I totally knew this was going to happen from the moment the character was introduced in the book. The similarities between Setrakian in The Strain andTrevor Bruttenholm (John Hurts Character in Hellboy) are so numerous it just had to happen.
I just wonder if they will bring back Kevin Trainor, who played the younger version of John Hurt in Hellboy for the flashback sequences in The Strain?
Kinda disappointed that Perlman won’t be involved but I guess he’s got a busy schedule.
I’m still only halfway through the second book The Fall, but I can honestly say this is shaping up to be one my favourite book series. Can’t wait for the TV show 🙂
So let’s not bury the lead here this one is a biggie. Did not see this one coming. All I know about Ultron is that he’s a pretty badass robot created by Hank Pym (Antman) for some sort of experiment which goes wrong leading said robot to proceed to terminate the Avengers. So what’s going on with Thanos? Well Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige did previously drop hints that Thanos would be saved for the 3rd Avengers movie BUT we did also find out that Thanos will be appearing in the Guardians of the Galaxy. So there’s that to chew on aswell.
At the Marvel Panel they pretty much had some sizzle footage for all their upcoming Phase 2 movies: Guardians of the Galaxy, apparently shaping up to be the comedic action team up romp set among the stars that many had expected with James Gunn at the helm. Captain America: The Winter Soldier, featuring some footage of Cap going all Jason Bourne on some Shield operative in an elevator, Robert Redford dishing out some advice about the modern world and a nice reveal of the titular antagonist. And Thor: The Dark World which seemingly put an end to the previous speculation that Loki could have a possible redemption path….SPOILERS well unless chopping off Thors good hammer throwing hand counts as redemption then NO.
So not a lot of news news apart from the title reveal but still a lot to keep fans going until 2015 and all good stuff. Looks like Mavels winning streak is set to continue for quite some time.
Thor: The Dark World will be released 8th November 2013
Captain America: The Winter Solider will be released 4th April 2014
Guardians of The Galaxy will be released 1st of August 2014
Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released 1st of May 2015
